Growing With Lego

handsfromtopA few of our classes had the opportunity to be introduced to growing in a most unique way! Judy from the Urban Seed Project came in with lego, seeds and soil in hand and the results were fun, informative and creative! Helen%27sClass4

‘Growing with Lego is a fabulous and no-mess program. We put together customized kits that kids can use to build mini pots. We then use an organic coir made out of prairie grasses in place of soil. The kids get to plant Strathcona 1890 Urban Seed Collections microgreen blend in their pot. It only takes two weeks for the microgreens to mature and be ready to eat!”Annie%27sClass

Helen%27sClass3“Our goal is to give everyone the opportunity to create their own local, sustainable food resources. Whether this be through plots in community gardens, school yards, roof top gardens or a few containers on a balcony or patio, we want people to regain control over the food they eat. Please note that all our seeds are open-pollinated and non-GMO. We also promote organic gardening and all the gardening projects and the plants we grow are not treated with pesticides.”

  1. I loved the experience! One of my students is carrying his lego project between home and school every day!
